About Quartstar bjd dolls

My name is Ilka Johannessen and I am the artist behind Quartstar. For those unfamiliar with my work, I am a ball jointed dolls artist based in Toronto that creates dolls inspired by the Toronto underground rave scene. Music and art has always been an outlet for me, and raving has become a huge part of my journey in self-discovery as well as finding my space in the world where I feel most like myself. I wanted to incorporate the elements of freedom, creativity, and being unapologetically yourself that raving has brought me into my artwork. My bjd dolls are canvases for other artists to create whatever they want, whether it's an original character, a mystical being, or even a character from their favourite game or show. The human form is such an inspiration as all we know is perceived through the body, and using that form to create is so beautiful to me. I do not make products, I make art. I make an artistic canvas for people to create whatever they want, however they want. I do have my own creative endeavours and create fully made dolls for those who enjoy my completed work, for art enthusiasts and collectors as well.

My artwork is an extension of my soul, the dolls I make are individually unique and precious as each one is different. All bjd dolls are hand painted and made with love. Quartstars are ball jointed dolls, strung with elastic to provide a jointed system for mobility and posing. Quartstars are designed to be fully customised, meaning that the doll can have unique makeup, eyes, wigs, and clothing. My art pieces come in three sizes, which can be seen on my 'size guide'  along with helpful information on clothing, wigs, eyes, and so forth!
